Wrentham Selectmen Talk Tech

The board appointed two members to the town's technology committee Tuesday night.

The Wrentham Board of Selectmen talked about the mission and composition of the town's technology committee at their meeting Tuesday night.

The board appointed two members — Deborah Distefano and Charles Kennedy — to the newly-repurposed committee.

Board chairman Joseph Botaish said Distefano had expressed an interest in creating a Facebook page for the town.

"It'd be similar to what the police and shcool have," he said. "It would give people on Facebook another avenue to know what's happening in town."

Distefano said such a page would better inform townspeople.

"I want to increase the transfer of information about what the [town] departments are doing," she said. "I know a lot of people and families are oblivious to what's going on in town."

Kennedy, a member of the town's finance committee, spoke about the need for a unified vision for the town's technology.

"I'm seeing a lot of savings that can happen by pulling purchases together," he said. "We don't have a policy for cell phones — right now, we're basically paying people's personal cell phone bills."

He also said technology could help streamline town processes. He suggested a web-based way that homeowners could find out what permits are needed to build additions or change things about their property.

Selectman Stephen Langley said the committee was looking to have its first meeting on Nov. 29.

"We're seeing a lot of folks step forward to be a part of new committees," he said. "The more information we get out there, the more hope we have that other folks will step forward. It's going to be an exciting couple of months."
