Wrentham Goes for Romney in Primary

Town votes overwhelmingly for former Governor Mitt Romney.

Wrentham came out in support of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney in Tuesday's election.

The town saw 819 vote for Romney, out of the 1,240 local residents who voted in the primary.

Also receiving votes in the Republican primary were Rick Santorum (111 votes), Ron Paul (73 votes), Newt Gingrich (34 votes), Jon Huntsman (nine votes) and Rick Perry (three votes). Michele Bachmann, who was also on the ballot, did not receive any votes in town.

President Barack Obama, running unopposed for the Democratic nomination, received 139 votes.

Wrentham had a 16.48 percent voter turnout in the election with 1,240 votes cast. That number was down substantially from the 3,239 (or 45 percent) who came out for the 2008 primary.

"[Turnout] was about what I guessed it would be," said Town Clerk Carol Mollica. "It was pretty slow all day."
