Wrentham Fire Fighters Honored for Response to Norfolk Explosion

Fire Chief Jay McMorrow and firefighter Patrick Rockett received citations at Tuesday night's selectmen meeting.

Two members of the Wrentham Fire Department received citations at the Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday for their response to a fatal explosion in Norfolk last year.

State Sen. Richard Ross (R-Wrentham) read citations from the state legislature to fire chief Jay McMorrow and firefighter Patrick Rockett.

"We wanted to recognize the heroism of those involved from the local fire departments," he said. "It was quite a difficult situation."

Ross mentioned hearing about the explosion while the state senate was in session, and his desire to leave quickly and learn more about the situation.

The two were among multiple area firefighters honored at the "Firefighter of the Year" awards in Worcester last week.

McMorrow said the ceremony was quite moving.

"Several awards were given out," he said. "On behalf of the department, I was able to accept an award from the state fire marshal."
