Wrentham Selectmen Look at Way Town Responds to Snowstorms

Costs an issue with snow and ice removal.

The Wrentham Selectmen discussed, at their meeting Tuesday night, ways to better monitor how the town deals with snowstorms.

Selectman Michael Carroll said he felt the town should monitor plowing costs more tightly.

"By closely following snow and ice costs, they can be controlled better," he said. "The last storm cost the town almost $22,000. Certainly, that's different from a normal storm — they were driving around the downed wires."

He said reviewing costs periodically with the Department of Public Works superintendent would be productive in lowering expenses.

Board Chairman Joseph Botaish discussed things he'd like to see in post-storm DPW reports to the board.

"I'd like to see the amount of snow that's fallen — if it's three inches in West Wrentham and five inches elsewhere," he said. "I'd like to see the time the storm started, and the time [plow drivers] came in."

Botaish suggested the town load trucks with sand the night before big storms to decrease the time spent between personnel arriving and getting out on the road.

"I think it's a good practive to have it ready, so when they get here, they can get out and get going," he said.
