Winslow Internet Poker Amendment Passes in House Casino Bill Vote

The Massachusetts House of Representatives passed a casino gambling bill Wednesday, including provisions for Internet poker.

The state House of Representatives passed a proposed casino-gambling bill Wednesday, including Internet poker provisions proposed by State Rep. Daniel Winslow.

"This amendment was aimed at creating high-tech job opportunities in Massachusetts, as well as increased local aid revenue," he said in a statement. "It is important to remember that 1,700 foreign companies already offer Internet poker, so state regulation will ensure that consumers are not being cheated."

According to Winslow, the amendment calls for model legislation to be ready for consideration by July 2012.

The amendment was part of a bill that could bring three casinos to the state. The state senate will now consider the bill.
