What's Going at the Fiske Public Library?

The Fiske Public Library will be reopening on Saturdays, Sept. 7. They will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Library staff also wants to let people know that SAILS will be migrating their services during the week of Sept. 16-19. Patriots won't be able to receive notices, check their "My Account" in the Enterprise catalog, renew items, place holds or use the virtual catalog.
The next foreign film will be shown at the library, Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m.

Jackson Hickey is working very hard to make his Eagle Scout project come together, but he needs your help!! His project involves a sizeable investment in landscaping improvements at the Fiske Library and although his vision is aggressive it is achievable with your help!!

If you would like to make a donation to help Jackson out, please make the check payable to Troop 131 with Jackson Hickey Eagle Project in the memo field. Mail the checks to 66 Arnold Street, Wrentham, MA. 02093.

Yoga Classes with Chris Primavera, Thursdays, 9:30-10:45 a.m. The first six-week fall session begins Sept. 5 and continues Sept. 12, 19, 26, Oct. 3 and 17.  Register at the circulation desk. The cost is $65 payable to the Friends of the Fiske.

Evening Book Group: Thursday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Book :  Genghis : Birth of an Empire by Conn Iggulden, books are now available at the circulation desk.  FACILITATOR : Jan Battikha

SEPTEMBER IS LIBRARY CARD MONTH: If you’re five-years-old you can come in and get your card and an “I got my library card” sticker.  Hope to see you!

TUMBLEBOOKS-ONLINE- Learning to read? This is perfect for the beginner to try a really fun way to get started. There are several levels and hints to help you along. Puzzles and games, too.  You may access it here or get started at home by going to our website, fiskelib.org. Click on KIDS CORNER and scroll down to the Tumblebooks link. ENJOY!

Six week Pretzel Kids Yoga Session -- (Ages 5-8)- Tues 4-4:45p -- September 10th- October 15th

Traditional yoga poses such as Lion, Tree, and Warrior are brought to life to help kids cultivate a deeper understanding of their environment and themselves while developing strength, flexibility, coordination and balance - in both body and mind. Poses are taught in a way that encourages creativity and exploration, helping to develop greater self-confidence and self-awareness. Students practice pose sequences designed to help them to discover greater comfort in their bodies while boosting self-confidence. As this is a very playful age, the class focuses on games, imagination, stories, and simple practices to introduce the healthful benefits of yoga. No previous yoga experience necessary, $60 for the session or $15 drop in if space is available. Please make checks payable to: FRIENDS OF THE FISKE. TOMMY JAMES HALLOWEEN MAGIC SHOW, Saturday, Oct. 19 – 11 a.m. -- Grades K-5 (Children and parents are invited to wear their Halloween Costumes!!) A Halloween themed show which has it all!! A very spooky magic wand, a haunted Jack-O-Lantern, a skull that takes on a life of its own and floats over the stage!! There are ghosts and goblins and a magical appearance from Bunnicula, the Vampire Bunny appearing from his magic castle! Also blended into the performance are plenty of “Trick or Treat Safety Tips”. The act is filled with lot of magic and hilarious comedy throughout. James, a Norfolk resident, has been performing for 36 years and was voted the 2010 International Family Performer of the Year by KIDabra, the largest group of family entertainers in the world. Registration is required. Tickets will be available at the circulation desk beginning Sept. 26. Program is free but canned-good donations will be gratefully accepted for the Wrentham Food Pantry. This program is supported with a grant from the SWEATT FUND.

CHINESE FOLKTALE  STORYTIME, CRAFTS, GAMES AND TREATSThursday, Sept. 19 3:30-5 p.m., Grades 1-3. Fiske Public Library invites students in grades 1-3 to listen to Chinese Folktales read by Ms. Liz, make a beaded dragon bookmark,  play with tangrams, build and decorate a kite using traditional Chinese designs with Debra Banna,  listen to Chinese music while enjoying  a special snack of mooncake to celebrate the Autumn Festival AND MORE. This program is supported with funds from The Friends of the Fiske. Register at the circulation desk or call 508-384-5440 ext. 10. Program is free but canned-good donations will be gratefully accepted for the Wrentham Food Pantry.

Sing-Along with Jeannie Mack, Wednesday, Sept. 25 – 10:30-11:15 -- Ages 2-6.
