Snowy Winter Leads To High Costs For Wrentham

Frequent winter storms have created a big expense for the town government.

In a winter where heavy snowstorms seem like weekly events, snow removal budgets for nearby towns have exploded.

Wrentham is no exception.

Town Administrator William Ketcham said the town's official number for snow cleanup thus far is $317,673,83.

"That's a little more than two times of what was in the original budget," he said.

He said the Department of Public Works had informed his office that additional expenses will likely bring that number to around $346,000. That new expense, he said, reflects salt purchases.

Ketcham said he was unsure as to whether the amount budgeted for snow removal would be increased in subsequent budgets.

"It may be discussed, but we don't have that much revenue to put aside for anything," he said. "It's going to be a tight budget."

He said the town was examining cost-cutting measures to save the town some money.
