Selectment May Appoint Government Study Comm.

Committee would look at ways to make Wrentham more efficient.

Town Administrator William Ketcham said the matter was discussed at Tuesday's board meeting.

"The government study committee would look at a number of alternatives for running the town," he said. "What the committee would do is look at the town government, evaluate what's happening and look at what other towns are doing."

"This isn't a charter study committee — that has to be elected by the town," Ketcham said.

A charter, Ketcham said, would clarify how the town should operate.

"All a charter does is codifies the organization of town government," he said. "Presently, with our organization, some things are determined by bylaws and some things by state statutes. We have to do a great deal of rummaging to determine relationships in the town."

According to Ketcham, a charter could standardize such matters as when the town starts its budget process.
