Plainville Votes 'Yes' for Slot Machines

In the Special Election Tuesday night, Plainville residents voted to allow slot machines at Plainridge Racecourse.

Town Clerk Ellen Robertson said residents voted by a 76 percent to 24 percent margin with 1,582 in favor and 502 against. The 'Yes' voters hope the move will boost local economy and create more jobs. The potential developer, Penn National Gaming, is to pay $4 million a year to the town in taxes and fees.

About 37 percent of Plainville voters cast ballots, more than twice the amount that usually participates in a town election according to Sun Chronicle.
