New Poll Shows Brown With a 5 Point Lead Over Warren

A recent poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP) delivered great news for incumbent Senator Scott Brown but bad news for challenger Elizabeth Warren.

In a poll of 1,115 likely Massachusetts voters, Brown led Warren 49%-44% which is an improvement from the previous PPP polling that had the race tied at 46% in June.

When those surveyed were asked if they approved or disapproved of the job that Senator Brown is doing, 53% approved while 36% disapproved. 

For Ms. Warren, the poll showed a 10 point spike in her unfavorable numbers since the last poll as they rose to 43% while her favorable rating stayed at 46%.  She is also struggling to rally her base as she leads among Democrats 73%-20% while Brown has a 91%-7% advantage with Republicans.

The campaign to portray Senator Brown as an independent voice in the Senate seems to be working for now. In addition to winning the independent vote 58%-32%, 49% of those polled believe that Brown is an independent voice for Massachusetts while 36% see him as a partisan voice for national Republicans. 54% of those polled also said his political ideology was just right as opposed to being too liberal or too conservative.

The poll was conducted between August 16 and 19 with a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percent. The survey was conducted through automatic telephone interviews.
