Massachusetts Unemployment Steady in February

The state unemployment rate remained unchanged in February.

The February unemployment rate was unchanged in Massachusetts, marking the third straight month at this level, the state announced Thursday.

The state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development announced that its February unemployment rate estimate was 6.9 percent, well below the national 8.3 percent rate.

According to the department, the private sector added 9,000 jobs, and seven of the 10 private sectors had job gains.

The department said 23,000 jobs have been added in the year to date, with the private sector adding 24,200 jobs.

The unemployment statistics for the local towns will be released on Tuesday, March 27.
