Massachusetts Unemployment Rate Down in November

State sees jobless rate fall to 7 percent.

Massachusetts' unemployment rate fell last month to its lowest point since December 2008, according to data released today.

According to the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, the state's unemployment rate dropped from 7.3 percent in October to 7 percent in November. The national average is 8.6 percent.

The office claims job growth in six of the 10 private sectors, and that the state added 5,000 jobs in November and 11,900 jobs in October.

According to the department, the state has added 51,600 jobs for the year to date. The department claims a year-over-year job growth rate of 1.7 percent, higher than the national average of 1.2 percent.

Local unemployment data will be released on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
