Marinelli Drops Out Of Selectman Race

Field of candidates now down to two.

The field of candidates running for the Board of Selectmen has narrowed by one, a little less than a week after the filing deadline to run for office.

According to the town clerk's office, Peter Marinelli has withdrawn his name from the ballot. He reportedly did so Wednesday afternoon.

The deadline for withdrawing from the race is March 2.

The decision leaves Mary Dunn and Michael Carroll as the only candidates for the three-year seat. That seat is currently occupied by Selectman Bob Cohen, who has decided not to run for re-election.

In a post on his campaign's Facebook page, Marinelli said family, business and volunteer responsibilities factored in to his decision to withdraw.

"It is my intention to continue to contribute to the dialogue about issues that come before the Town by serving on committees and being involved in the process.," Marinelli is quoted as saying. "We all want to shape a better Wrentham."
