King Philip School Committee to Examine Amended Budget Tonight

The KP School Committee is set to look at an amended budget.

The King Philip School Committee will be reviewing an amended budget at their meeting tonight.

Superintendent Elizabeth Zielinski said the district is likely looking at a level-funded budget.

"We'll have funding coming out of [Excess and Deficiency funds], but we did make considerable cuts," she said.

Those funds are carried over from the previous year, and must be first certified by the state. Zielinski said the district had yet to receive such a letter.

According to Zielinski, the new budget will likely include cuts in personnel.

"We're probably looking at three or four members of the staff at the high school, and other cuts," she said. "We've been doing things like not filling the positions of people who have retired as well."

She said some of the details are still in the air, as the district is trying to find a solution that impacts students the least.
