Is Gov. Patrick Considering a Run for President?

Speculation grows amid latest report.

There’s been speculation for quite some time that Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick would consider a run for president, and now it seems it’s a real possibility.

With the governor’s announcement he wasn’t running for reelection this fall and his second and final term coming to an end, questions surrounding his political future continue to grow.

In July, Patrick told reporters at UMass-Boston he would not run for president in 2016. The Boston Globe reported last summer that Patrick plans to return to the private sector after his gubernatorial tenure ends and spend more time with family and friends.

In an interview Sunday, Patrick told Politico he’s open to a White House bid at some point. When asked in an interview with the political website as to whether he could see himself as a national candidate, the governor said “Maybe. Maybe.”

“That’s a decision I have to make along with my wife of 30 years, and she’s a tough one to convince,” Patrick told Politico. “Let’s just see what time tells.”

Is the country ready for Presidential candidate Deval Patrick? Would you support the governor if he made a presidential bid? Tell us in the comments section below.

Clearly, the public education system failed a lot of people here.
Bonnie Parker February 25, 2014 at 03:29 AM
That can't be true, Steve Marino even quoted the "vise" President. "Joe Biden: He'll squeeeeeeze the votes outta ya!!!"
Carrie February 25, 2014 at 07:03 AM
To answer the question, no the country does not need a Deval Patrick presidency. We can't afford him.
John February 25, 2014 at 08:38 AM
Hey Bonnie. You're beautiful. If you REALLY believe that Deval Patrick has been a good governor and an effective leader, then I feel sorry for you as your critical thinking skills are non-existent. Keep blindly using the tactics spelled out on Page 1 of the Democrat playbook: deny, distort, distract, and call anyone who dares disagree with the party dogma racists or birthers. I thought Democrats believed in being "inclusionary" and "coexisting," and embracing all types? What you're seeing and reading here is that people are waking up -- finally!! -- to the destructive policies being inflicted on decent, hard-working, tax-paying, LEGAL citizens by the socialist Democrats who are determined to destroy this country by pandering to criminals, illegals, and layabouts. Those of us with half a brain have had quite enough of all this nonsense. Have a nice day, comrade.
Bonnie Parker February 25, 2014 at 09:02 AM
Hey John, thanks, but you're not my type. I don't have high hopes for your critical thinking skills, given your lack of reading comprehension and that poor sad half a brain of yours. I didn't say anything about Patrick at all. I am, in fact, not terribly impressed with the man and think there's plenty to criticize, which is why I'm so amused that the most cogent criticism some of these folks can muster is that he's black (and maybe gay). Also, a person who calls the President a foreigner is a Birther. That's not slander, that's observation. Have the kind of day you deserve, dude.
Steven Sadowski February 25, 2014 at 09:31 AM
Bonnie: You seem to have lost this argument because you have devolved into ad hominem, strawman arguments, hypocrisy and "ignoratio elenchi." I always know when someone is losing when I read the condescension replete in your responses.
Bonnie Parker February 25, 2014 at 09:44 AM
Oooh, look who learned some big words today!!! Interesting that you only see those qualities in my posts. And by "interesting" I mean "Your shoes fasten with velcro, don't they?" Y'all ain't mad about insults bro, y'all mad because I'm better at them.
Steven Sadowski February 25, 2014 at 09:47 AM
Sorry you think those are "big words." That's sad. It's a shame they don't teach rhetoric in schools anymore. If they did, maybe we'd have more sophists and less invectives on the board.
Steve Marino February 25, 2014 at 09:51 AM
Ms. Parker, Why are you picking on me? I didn't say that being a "clean" black man was qualification to be president, Joe Biden did, I just repeated it!
John February 25, 2014 at 09:53 AM
So, let me get this straight, Bonnie, baby. By my count, only two posters out of 34 mentioned race or sexual preference (roughly only 6% of all posters) in their comments about Patrick so you take that and run with it to demean others who have commented and legitimately criticized the Guv? Oh, and BTW, how come when a looney tune like yourself casually tosses out and uses pejorative terms (e.g., "birther") it's considered merely an "observation" by you, yet when a person with an opposing view does the exact same thing it's somehow evil. See, this is exactly the kind of typical hypocrisy that makes your cause impossible to embrace . . . except by other phonies. Love yah; mean it!
Steve Marino February 25, 2014 at 10:00 AM
I guess that was unfair, I was just pointing out the buffoons that we have running our nation. Just an observation! Oh ya, and our state.
Steve Marino February 25, 2014 at 10:31 AM
Maybe we should try to find a strong leader to run the country, like Hillary Clinton. You know, the person that was to " distraught" to talk to the media about the death of the four American diplomats left to be slaughtered by terrorists. She would be great in a moment of crisis like say, another 9/11 Attack. After she stopped crying under the covers for a few weeks, she could hand it off to someone else to handle.
DEBBIE February 25, 2014 at 11:37 AM
Good God, I hope he doesn't run. It would be a spinoff of what is in there now. The present administration will more than likely go down as the worst in history. It is so un-American-like. No patriotism at all.
John f caruso February 25, 2014 at 06:16 PM
Let's see. He puts people in charge of putting children of sex perverts and then praises the management. Next helps cons come back on the street because he feels sorry for them yet where is the compassion for the victims this is don be hiring a person who did not do or know her job as a DNA specialist. Promised to cut taxes and the raised them. Put us under idiots who run the mass pike and other things with a runaway salary Raised the salary of the mass college presidents. Made a comment that campaign promises are not meant to be kept but can be broken. Do we want this guy as president to me he is clarabell the clown
Tyler Jozefowicz February 25, 2014 at 07:26 PM
So when are the Republicans going to come out with their group of presidential bozos to fill the clown car? Think they'll all fit? This remark ought to attract all the usual hardcore righties here with their predictable blabber given I made a factual observation.
mark February 25, 2014 at 08:47 PM
I have the guts to flat out say it! No more black presidents!
Steve Marino February 25, 2014 at 09:24 PM
No racist here, WOW!
Bonnie Parker February 25, 2014 at 09:39 PM
They appear to have redefined "guts" since last I checked. Guys, mark has the "guts" to anonymously announce his racism on the internet! He's a regular profile in courage.
mg February 25, 2014 at 10:22 PM
Look out, we've got an edgy guy comin' thru
JohnnyMass February 26, 2014 at 09:05 AM
This self-serving puke doesn't have much of a chance. Thank God that the rest of the country's voters aren't as stupid as the ones in Massachusetts!
mark February 26, 2014 at 09:29 AM
Black Governors, Mayors and Presidents have done really well in this country! Just admire the jobs they've done in Detroit, Washington DC, Chicago, as well as the Fearless leader of this Commonwealth! Don't forget Obama lama ding dong in the White House! No racism , I just see the results of their leadership! They are in control and yet black people are still impoverished in the hood! Now whites are soon to follow!
Steven Sadowski February 26, 2014 at 10:01 AM
mark: I think this has little to do with their skin color and more to do with their economic ideology. I can give you dozens of successful black entrepreneurs and leaders, unfortunately they are not in power because their political affiliations make them "turncoats" to the party. Furthermore, your anecdotal argument doesn't account for all the white leaders who have royally screwed up the country/state/town/company. Last I checked, every single economic collapse in this country had white guys in charge, but again, this has little to do with their skin color and more to do with their Keynesian economic policy.
steve forte February 26, 2014 at 04:12 PM
Steve is correct. Skin color has absolutely nothing to do with it. I would like to see Dr Ben Carson run. Hoping he does.
Chris Daley February 27, 2014 at 08:04 AM
Coy mind games. Coca Cola-turned Governor of blue state, true blue DCF issues, promising Probation Dept., fowled up unemployment/ health care computer networks, state drug lab scandal, big bucks gambling commission studies, eminent domain for new wasteful unneeded I-95/128 and I-93 interchange-all paid for for with YOUR MONEY. Huggie Wuggy with Obama and Hilary. And what about letting these foreigners in on student visas anyway? I know I shouldn't say that! Bush, Brown or Ryan for me.
Marcia Reinhagen Sullivan February 27, 2014 at 03:50 PM
Let's see: scandal in the department of public safety, scandal in the education department, scandal surrounding EBT cards, scandal in the criminal labs, scandal (leading to death) in public health, scandal in the child welfare division. I think I missed a few, but you get the point. Also, raised the sales tax, raised the gas tax, raised the income tax and promised to lower our real estate taxes - I'm still waiting. This is just who I want to see lead our nation.
Myron Dittmer February 27, 2014 at 04:00 PM
Stay tuned, Marcia, this state will elect another left leaning liberal Democrat for governor again because.......most people in this state just don't care and believe that Democrats still care about the working stiff!A combination of Low information voters and the "takers" will ensure their success! Sad but realistic!
J. Parker March 03, 2014 at 02:19 PM
Wow, Myron, ain't "that" the truth ! Democrats vote for Democrats no matter WHO they are. They've been programmed. No amount of common sense seems to peneitrate a stubborn mind. Either that, or they're not educated politically and just vote the way of their elders. " Sad but realistic", so true.
Steven Sadowski March 03, 2014 at 02:38 PM
I agree that Dems will vote for a Dem based upon nothing else, but R's do the same. Everyone just roots for laundry.
J. Parker March 03, 2014 at 03:32 PM
Nope, Steven, the Repub's won't vote at all if they don't like either candidate. LOL Showed in the last election, didn't it ?
Jerry Chase March 11, 2014 at 05:09 PM
Besides the fact of the Coupe deValle's incompetency, Patch would be considered a more serious alternative news outlet if they did ask such incredibly stupid questions as this one was.
