State Rep. Winslow Weighing US Senate Run

State Rep. Daniel Winslow is expected to announce Tuesday whether he will be a candidate for the United States Senate.

State Rep. Daniel Winslow (R-Norfolk) is expected to announce Tuesday on whether he will be the running for the United States Senate, according to a report in the Sun Chronicle.

Winslow told the Associated Press that he has been urged by supporters to run for the seat previous held by John Kerry.

When former United States Senator Scott Brown announced last week that he wasn't running for office, that left the Republican field wide-open for the April 30 primary and the June 30 general election.

‘‘I will reflect this weekend about my own family’s needs and whether there is room in the national Republican Party for a member who is both fiscally prudent and socially tolerant,’’ said Winslow in the Associated Press story Friday.

Congressman Ed Markey and Stephen Lynch are in the Democratic field.

Before being elected state representative, Winslow was the chief legal counsel for former Massachusetts Governor Milt Romney. He is also a former presiding judge at Wrentham District Court and was involved in Norfolk government for 15 years, including being town moderator.
