As Revenue Search Continues, Wrentham Selectmen to Re-examine Zoning

Wrentham selectmen direct town administrator to look at zoning issues.

The Wrentham Board of Selectmen asked Town Administrator William Ketcham to examine town zoning — especially the Conservation, Recreation, School and Park (CRSP) designation — as the town searches for new revenue sources.

Selectman Robert Leclair raised the issue at Tuesday's meeting, asking the board to look at re-zoning the parking lot in the center of town and the Wrentham Developmental Center.

"I talked to the development center director, and he had no objection," he said.

Board Chairman Joseph Botaish said the town is currently examining those matters through its Economic Development Committee. The committee, he said, is in the midst of conducting a survey.

"I think that may impact how we want to use that piece of property," he said. "What I'd like to do is bring this to the Economic Development Committee meeting at the end of the month."

Leclair said he wanted to get the ball rolling on revenue possibilities. Such properties, he said, are zoned in such a way (with the CRSP designation) that prohibits development.

Town Administrator William Ketcham said that an examination of CRSP could be warranted.

"There's land that could be utilized for purposes not permitted by the CRSP zoning," he said. "There's also land that has been designated as free space that is not zoned CRSP as it should be."

The board voted unanimously to have Ketcham look into the matter.
