4th Congressional District GOP Candidate Sean Bielat Votes in Norfolk

The GOP candidate for Congress voted at the Freeman-Kennedy School in Norfolk this morning along with his wife Hope.

For the first time in almost 30 years, the winner of tonight’s 4th Congressional Election will not be Barney Frank but rather a new member of Congress.

With Frank retiring when his term ends in January, either Democrat Joe Kennedy or Republican Sean Bielat will succeed Frank as the district’s congressman.

At a little after 10 a.m., Bielat, along with his wife, Hope, and two young children, Theo and Seraphina, stopped at the Freedman-Kennedy School in Norfolk to cast their ballots for the general election. For Bielat, this is his second attempt at running for Congress, losing to Frank in the 2010 election.

“I think I made the right choices in the voting booth. Feel good about who we voted,” Bielat said about voting.

The GOP candidate will be on the road all day today with stops in Attleboro, Taunton, Sharon, and Wellesley planned before ending the day at the campaign’s victory party in Needham.

Like other candidates, Bielat is happy to see the high voter turnout at his previous stops, noting the high turnout he saw while making an appearance at Franklin High School earlier today.

“I’m really glad to see the high turnout. I like to see people participating in the process and it’s an exciting day,” he said. “Regardless of outcome, it’s an exciting day. Because it gives people the chance to have their voice and hopefully whoever gets into office, they'll be looking out for our best interest and do a good job.”

With only hours left before the polls close, Bielat said he didn’t have any nerves going into today and was satisfied with his campaign.

“I feel like we’ve done what we needed to do and what we could do and now it’s just in the hands of the voters,” Bielat said. “I just hope everybody goes into the voting booth, understands who the candidates are, what we stand for, and makes an informed decision. As long as that happens, I feel good about everything.”
