(From the Wrentham Police Department)

Wrentham Police Officer Robert O'Connell rescued an elderly woman during a house fire at 23 Redbird Lane, Jan. 22.

O'Connell was the first one on the scene after Wrentham Police and Wrentham Fire Departments were notified of the fire at around 10:45 a.m. The officer heard from several occupants who had gotten out safely that there was another person along with a pet cat in the building.

Officer O’Connell immediately entered the house where he encountered heavy acrid smoke and found the woman, disorientated, standing in the kitchen where the stove, cabinets and curtains were afire. He was able to get the woman and the cat out of the house safely. The woman was then treated by Wrentham Fire Rescue personnel.

The fire department was able to contain the fire and save the home.
