Wrentham Fire Department Helps Out With Foxborough Fire

There was heavy fire and smoke visible from the front of a mobile home at 131 Washington St. Norfolk Park Wednesday afternoon when firefighters arrived on scene, according to Foxborough Deputy Fire Chief Steve Bagley, who said the trailer was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

“Nobody home at time of the fire,” Bagley said. “No injuries reported … none of our people had any injuries either.”

Firefighters battled the blaze for about 30 to 45 minutes, Bagley said, before it was under control. After the fire was knocked down, fire personnel began the overhaul process and surveyed the damage, which was extensive.

“Basically a total loss,” Bagley said of the double-wide trailer. “Extensive heat and smoke damage throughout the rest of the trailer as well.”

received approximately five 911 calls just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday about the mobile home fire at Unit 25 in Norfolk Park off Route 1 on Washington Street. Foxborough received mutual aid from Wrentham, Walpole, Sharon and Plainville.

“We had an engine from Walpole, Wrentham and Sharon assisting us,” Bagley said. “We were able to get a lot of water on the trailer quick and knock down the fire quick. Guys prevented the fire from spreading to any of the exposures.”

Two of those exposures were a pair of gas tanks sitting off to the right of the burnt mobile home. Bagley credited the quick work of all involved to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other trailers in the park as well.

“It could have been a lot worse if it extended to some of the close trailers but we were able to get a couple of lines on it real quick and keep it from spreading,” Bagley said.

Other damage reported was minor – a nearby shed outside of another trailer unit and utility wires above unit 25.

“The building commissioner responded as well as National Grid,” Bagley said.

Bagley said the owner of the mobile home could not be reached so Foxborough Fire spoke with family members. The owner and one of her sons occupy the trailer, according to Bagley.

“As of right now I do not have the names [of the residents],” Bagley said.

Bagley added the cause of the fire is unknown at this time but remains under investigation.
