Norfolk County Sheriff Deputy From Plainville Dies in I-95 Crash

The accident involved a sheriff's office motorcycle, and two cars, state police say.

A Norfolk County Sheriff's deputy has died after an accident involving a department motorcycle and two cars on Interstate 95 in Walpole this morning, state police say.

The Sun Chronicle is reporting that the deputy involved was Ryan Tvelia, 42, of Plainville.

An ambulance took the deputy to a local hospital after the 7:40am crash on I-95 North, north of Exit 9 in Sharon, police said in a press release.

"[The] preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the motorcycle was involved in a collision with one car and then was struck in a secondary collision with a second car," the release reads.

Troopers from the Foxborough State Police barracks, as well as along with members of the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and Norfolk County State Police detectives, responded to the crash, police said.

The crash caused a five-mile traffic back-up on I-95 for a time, Fox 25 in Boston reports.
