Early Morning Box Truck Turnover On 1A in Wrentham

A 45-foot refrigerated box truck carrying 70,000 pounds of frozen food overturned this morning in Wrentham at approximately 2:08 a.m. at the junction of Routes 121 and 1A.

Wrentham Fire Chief James McMorrow said the state police truck team was out there this morning with Wrentham Police and the Fire Department’s EMS team. Wrentham Fire Department took the driver to  Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. 

McMorrow said the driver suffered a pelvic injury and a suspected broken arm, but he was able to kick out the windshield after the truck slid on its side for an estimated 20-30 feet and destroyed the utility pole on the corner.  “Speed was a factor,” in the turnover said McMorrow.  There were no other people involved in the accident.

“The truck is owned by Webster trucking out of Walpole” said McMorrow.  He added that there was, “A fair amount of difficulty in removing the truck.” 

McMorrow said they brought in a front end loader and three large tow trucks to get the box truck up right. Then a dump truck was brought to clean the up the frozen food the box truck was carrying off the road. 

A representative from Webster Trucking declined to comment. Wrentham police are continuing to investigate the incident.
