Driver Faces Charges After Sunday Crash in Wrentham

Wrentham Police are investigating a crash on Route 140 North Sunday afternoon.

 

A Rosindale man is facing several charges after being in a single car accident on Route 140 in the area of 205 Dedham St., Sunday afternoon. 

The Wrentham Police charged James A. Gately, 33, of Rosindale with operating under the influence, assault & battery with a dangerous weapon (the vehicle), operating after suspension and child engagement He was taken to Norwood Hospital and then to Women & Brigham Hospital in Boston where he was placed in protective custody and was being held without bail. He was scheduled to be arranged yesterday.

Rhiannon Gately, 31, had to be removed from the car by the Wrentham Fire Department using the Jaws of Life. She was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital. 

Their eight-year-old was seriously hurt and taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Wrentham Police allege James A. Gately grabbed the steering wheel of the 1997 Toyota Corolla, going north bound of Route 140, taking over operation and causing it to cross the center line. The car struck a tree on the southbound shoulder.

Norfolk Police assisted at the accident along with the  Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction and Trooper George. Wrentham officers Stephen Saulnier, Christopher Cowley and Todd Schwalbe are continuing the investigation.
