Second Update: Accident on Rte 1 in Foxborough, Lanes Closed

Injury closes southbound lanes of Route 1.

Second Update: The Massachusetts State Police have released the following information:

"Preliminary investigation by Trooper Paul Dockery indicates a 2002 Infiniti G20, operated by Matthew J. Gallagher, 34, of Walpole, was traveling on North Street when he failed to stop for a red light. The car entered Route 1 on the southbound side when the Infiniti was struck by a 2005 Oshkosh cement mixer truck owned by Boro Sand and Gravel of North Attleboro and operated by John Stapleton, 51, of Foster, Rhode Island.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, State police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Foxboro Fire Department and the Department of Transportation Highway Division.  Route 1 South was closed for approximately one hour and the southbound traffic was detoured onto North Street."

Update: State Police have announced that the accident resulted in a fatality. The road is expected to reopen soon.

Original: According to the Massachusetts State Police, a serious accident at Route 1 and North Street in Foxborough has closed the southbound lanes of the highway.

Police termed the incident as a "serious personal injury accident."

Police said traffic is being diverted to North Street, and that Route 1 will remain closed until their investigation is done.

"Few details are available but preliminary reports indicate that a cement mixer was involved in a crash with a passenger car resulting in life-threatening injuries," according to a state police release.
