Obituary: Catherine Alina Ryan-Beals

Catharine Alina Ryan-Beals was a former teacher and an accomplished musician.

Catharine Alina Ryan-Beals, 99 of Cape Cod and Wrentham, died Feb. 8, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Norwood.

Born in Dubuque, IA, on Dec. 15, 1913, she was the daughter of the late James A. and Marjorie (Rose) Ryan.  She grew up in Iowa and Kansas, but had also lived in New York, Illinois, Michigan, and Massachusetts during her long life.  Catharine was a resident of Centerville for the past 21 years, recently moving to Wrentham to live with her son Peyton Beals and his wife Kim.

Catharine was a graduate of Wayne State University, in Detroit, with a degree in Education.  She taught school in Michigan in the Berkley School system.  She had also held administrative positions with several companies during a long business career.

An accomplished pianist and keyboardist, she studied music from an early age.  Music gave her great enjoyment and she had remained capable of playing some of her favorite pieces just days before her death.  An avid artist she was an amateur painter with significant talent.

She took up dancing in her 70s, and enjoyed dancing with a group on Cape Cod.  She continued to dance with them well into her 80s as they performed for local Senior Centers and retirement homes.  Catharine adored animals, always having one or more in her home.  In her retirement she rescued several cats, and she was a member of the MSPCA.

Catharine had a great interest in genealogy and the history of her family.  She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, The Colonial Dames, and the Huguenot Society.]

Catharine is survived by her son Peyton C. Beals II and his wife Kimberly E. Beals of Wrentham, and by her granddaughter Colleen Amanda Beals of Providence, RI.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the RJ Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St. Route 1A, Wrentham Centre, on Friday from 5-8 p.m. Her Funeral will be at Graveside on Saturday at 2 p.m., in the Beechwood  Cemetery, Rte 28 at Old Stage Road, Centerville.

 Arrangements are in the care of Richard Ross and the RJ Ross Funeral Home, Wrentham Centre.
