INTERACTIVE MUSIC CONCERT

with ELAINE KESSLER

THURS. AUG 16 – 10:30am -- Ages 3-8

Known to children as “Miss Elaine” I engage the children in a very interactive program where we sing songs, sometimes with my guitar, we dance with or without instruments, we tell and act out stories, we meet puppet friends, we learn finger plays and poems and most of all pretend to be creatures big and small.  Tickets are now available at the circulation desk. Program is free but canned-good donations will be gratefully accepted for the Wrentham Food Pantry. This program is supported with a grant from the Wrentham Cultural Council, a local agency, supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

“What a fabulous concert you provided. Everyone had a marvelous time. The songs you chose were familiar enough for all to participate but had enough variety to tickle even the elementary kids. The energy displayed by the kids throughout was exceptional, such fun but in control thanks to your great management techniques. I love to watch an experienced professional at work!” – Kathleen D. Hutchins, Head of Youth Services, JV Fletcher Library, Westford, MA.

SUMMER MOVIES FOR CHILDREN & TEENS!!!

THURSDAY AUG. 9 – 1:00

SUMMER WARS (ANIME) – RATED PG – 115 min.

Voted best Japanese animated film!  The graphics and story are stunning and it does have English subtitles.  The film would be a great introduction if you haven’t experienced anime before.

WEDNESDAY AUG. 15 – 2:00

THE LORAX – RATED PG – 86 min.

In this Dr. Seuss classic, a 12-year-old boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world. Call or come by for tickets after Aug. 3.

Parents and caregivers should always check the internet if they don’t think the subject matter is appropriate. We have found a useful site for checking any movies before watching them –www.commonsensemedia.org

REMINDER : TURN IN YOUR SUMMER READING CLUB COUPONS BY AUG. 22 !!

Dear Friends –

I am writing this letter to ask your support for our Summer Reading Program at the Fiske Public Library. We are asking library patrons, local businesses, banks, civic groups, etc. to donate items (gift certificates, savings bonds, raffle items, crafts, school supplies, coupons for free ice cream cones or slices of pizza, etc.) to encourage Wrentham families to read together. We will use the donations as reading incentive prizes.

We hope this will not only be good advertising for local merchants but also FUN for the children. We will be happy to post names of supporters at the library and on our website.

We’re happy to say that participation in the Summer Reading Program has grown each year.

YOUR SUPPORT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Thank you in advance!

Sincerely, Elizabeth A. Nadow, Children’s Librarian

P.S. We would appreciate it if you could make your donation ASAP so that we may prepare publicity. Donations may be left at the library along with your name and address. Please note that the donation is for the Summer Reading Club.  THANKS!!

SEARCHING OVERDRIVE THE EASY WAY

We have purchased many new titles that are limited to Wrentham residents.  We find that the simplest way to see the list is to access the Sailsinc.org ecatalog and enter your barcode and pin number first.  Next, limit your search to Fiske and click on the “search electronic titles only” option. Leave the SEARCH FOR line blank and click the TITLE option.  Now you will see a complete list of Fiske Library’s ADVANTAGE titles.  Some are described as ONLINE (ebooks and Kindle books) and others are described as SOUNDFILE (audio). By clicking on the Fiske link that says, “FISKE PUBLIC LIBRARY PATRONS” YOU WILL BE DIRECTED TO the overdrive site where you can download or place a hold on a title.  HOPE THIS HELPS!

Returning Kindle books

You can now return books as soon as you have finished reading them.  Just go to Amazon, manage my Kindle, choose “action” and select “return my book”. This frees up your record and you can borrow more titles sooner.
