Dogs From All Over Go for Best In Show at Crackerbarrel Cluster Dog Show

The Hockamock Kennel Club and the Wampanoag Kennel Club hosted the Crackerbarrel Cluster Dog Show featuring dogs from across the country and beyond.

For dog owners, Wrentham is the place to be this weekend.

As evident by the amount of RVs in the parking lot, the Crackerbarrel Cluster Dog Show at the Wrentham Developmental Center presented by the Hockamock Kennel Club and the Wampanoag Kennel Club seemed to attract dog lovers and competitors from all over the country and internationally.

With over 100 different breeds of dogs in 12 competitions, judges had plenty of options to find the best in show.

“We have people from all over the country come. Many of them will go on to Springfield next week,” Show chairperson Wendy Willhauck said.

With competitors coming from places such as Arizona, Tennessee, North Carolina, and parts of Canada, dog shows are a serious commitment, if not a way of life.

When the show ends, many will be traveling to and preparing for whatever the next event may be. With many people staying in RVs, there is an EMT on site at all times in the event of an emergency.

Making the drive all the way from New Jersey was Lynn Tatarowicz who came to the show with her Pharaoh Hound Rodimes entered in the veterans division (age seven and older). Getting a win early in the day, it was the first victory for Tatarowicz and her dog as in the veterans division.

“I use to train dogs years ago and I had basset hounds. I wanted something on legs so I went to the Pharaoh Hound. They were easy wash and wear kind of dogs,” Tatarowicz said.

The show has a special meaning for Tatatowicz who has had previous success with her Pharaoh Hound as a puppy.

“As a puppy, he took a five point major here five-six years ago so that’s why I’m very delighted that he’s still winning after all these years,” Tatatowicz said.

A portion of the proceeds will be given to the Friends of Wrentham Developmental Center and the Lions’ Club. Earlier in the week, the kennel clubs put on a show for the residents of the Developmental Center.

“We try to help with whatever charities there are. On Wednesday we were setting up for the show and we had a little dog show as we always do for the residents of the school.” Willhauck said.

The Crackerbarrel Cluster Dog Show continues though Saturday June 30. Admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children.

For those unfamiliar with how a show works, there will be guided tours at 10 am and 1 pm explaining the workings of the show.
