THE FRIENDS OF THE FISKE ANNUAL BOOKSALE IS COMING MAY 11 & 12!!!

The Friends are beginning to collect clean, saleable books, DVD’s, books on cd and music cd’s for our Annual Book Sale.  You may begin bringing items anytime.  NOTE - If you feel your items are very old (like outdated encyclopedias) or not in very good condition, use the GOT BOOKS bin at the rear of the parking lot. Unfortunately, we and GOT BOOKS cannot accept audio or videos on cassette.

 

FRIENDS OF THE FISKE BOOKSALE MEMBERS NIGHT -- FRIDAY MAY 11 6pm-8pm

You may pay your $15 family membership on that night or before.

 

MEMBER NIGHT ENTERTAINMENT

Come and enjoy the music of Mike McGuire’s guitar group. (You don’t even need to buy a book!) Refreshments available, too!

 

SOHOANNO GARDEN CLUB PLANT SALE

MAY 12 — 10am-3pm

The Sohoanno Garden Club has some unusual, locally grown offerings for you and will be holding their annual plant sale in conjunction with the Friends Booksale on Saturday.

 

CELEBRATE NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK, APRIL 8-14 AT FISKE!!

The first 125 patrons to checkout during the week will be given a pencil. In addition anyone checking out materials during the week will be given a FREE RAFFLE TICKET each time they check out to enter a drawing to win a Reading Blanket, Travel Mug, Book Bag, or Library Pen/Pad Set. Prizes paid for by the Friends of the Fiske. Thanks Friends!!

Fiske Library is celebrating National Library Week with face painting!! On Saturday April 14, Artist/Teacher, Susana Pare, will be here to paint pirates, animals, fairies, princesses, superheroes and more.

She uses Diamond FX, a special fragrance free theatrical/movie paint that lasts all day and dries into a powder which wipes off easily with a baby wipe or damp cloth. It meets all FDA regulations. Check out the pirate photo in the Children’s Room to see her work!! Bring your camera to photograph your child reading a book to match their face paint. REGISTER at the circulation desk!! Space is limited so sign up soon.

Come join the fun and celebrate books and reading with us. This program is supported with funds from the Friends of the Fiske.

 

Children’s Room users:

We need you to follow the rules of this area:

NO running (we've had two sets of stitches already)

YOU are responsible for your children's behavior, particularly cleaning up the toys that they have used while visiting. Miss Liz is busy with her programs and cannot be expected to put away books, toys, etc.

NO food is allowed. This means coffee, donuts, etc. Water is fine and bottles and sippy cups for babies.  

The adult circulation area is a QUIET area.

 

WRENTHAM READS – EMILY DICKINSON

Wed., April 18 – 2PM

Grades K-3

Wrentham Children are invited to participate in the program sponsored by the Wrentham Cultural Council and Fiske Public Library.

Meet Emily Dickinson’s dog Carlo, listen to poems read by Grade 6, Wrentham Elementary students, Rose Fitzgerald and Katie Aaron dressed as young Emily Dickinson and listen to a picture book read by Miss Liz. Bring your camera to be photographed with Carlo, Rose and Katie. The Friends of the Fiske will be providing a special surprise refreshment!! Sign up at the circulation desk. Check out the new display on Emily Dickinson during the month of April in the Children’s Room.

 

APRIL VACATION MOVIE!!

TUESDAY APRIL 17 – 11am

SCOOBY DOO, MUSIC OF THE VAMPIRE.

When Daphne becomes the star of a vampire film, the production is thrown into chaos by a real vampire, forcing the Scooby-Doo team to investigate who’s behind this monstrous mayhem. The movie is Rated G and is 79 minutes long. No children under 2 1/2.  (Parents and caregivers should always check the Internet if they don’t think the subject matter is appropriate. We have found a useful site for checking any movies before watching them – www.commonsensemedia.org. Sign-up and tickets available after April 5.

Learning Through Play
Thurs. April 26 — 1pm – 2pm
Ages 3-5 with a parent/caregiver
This monthly program is being offered by Self Help, Inc., Community Partnerships for Children. Learning through Play is a FREE playgroup for preschool children and their families. Come join us for fingerplays, books and a craft as we Learn Through Play. Canned-good donations will be gratefully accepted for the Wrentham Food Pantry. Sign-up at the Circulation Desk.

KIDS YOGA will probably hold another session — details coming soon. LOTS of healthy fun!

 

Registration for SPRING Toddler Time (ages  2 1/2 to 3 1/2 in Mom, Dad or caregiver’s lap) or Preschool  Storytime (ages 3 1/2 to K) has begun. Join us for stories, songs, poems and parachute play. Call 384-5440 ext. 21, or stop in the Children’s Dept. and see Miss Liz to sign up. Program is free but food donations for the Wrentham Food Pantry gratefully accepted.

This film documents orphaned orangutans and elephants and the extraordinary people who rescue and raise them-saving endangered species one life at a time. Born to be Wild is a heartwarming adventure transporting moviegoers into the lush rainforests of Borneo with world-renowned primatologist Dr. Birute Galdikas, and across the rugged Kenyan savannah with celebrated elephant authority Dame Daphne Sheldrick, as they and their teams rescue, rehabilitate and return these incredible animals back to the wild. BABY/TODDLER PLAYGROUPS

Birth to pre-walkers with Mom, Dad or caregiver meets on Fridays at 9:30am. Toddlers (walkers) to age 2 ½ with Mom, Dad or caregiver meets on Fridays at 10:30am. Meet new friends, play with the toys and gym equipment purchased with funds from the Friends of Fiske!!! Come join the fun! No registration required just drop in. If arriving before 10am, please ring doorbell.

 

LEGO CLUB NEWS!!!

The Lego Club has resumed on Saturdays. The sessions are held in the Sweatt Meeting Room from 2:30-3:45. Registration is not required, just drop in and join the fun!!!! (Lego donations always appreciated!)

 

DOWNLOADABLE BOOKS - MORE COMING

We are working to add new titles for you to download to your PC’s and mobile devices, both as eBooks and audiobooks.  The Friends are supporting this project and we are most appreciative!
