Devotion Vodka
Billed as the first gluten-free and sugar-free spirit in the U.S. market, Devotion Vodka is expanding to 49 states this year, its owner, Devotion Spirits Inc. of Red Bank, N.J., announced. The vodka, made 100% from corn and available in six flavors, recently won approval from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau to use the “Gluten-Free” and “No Added Sugar” designations on its label.
New Freixenet
Freixenet has launched its Excelencia Kosher Brut label in select U.S. markets. Previously available only in Europe, Excelencia is billed as a special vintage kosher Cava made with Macabeo grapes. The offering, which is targeted toward the kosher-for-Passover occasion, will roll out across New York, New Jersey, Florida, Illinois, California, Texas, Georgia and Massachusetts in March, priced at around $15 a 750-ml. Excelencia Kosher Brut marks the only kosher offering in Friexenet’s stable of méthode champenoise Cava, which sells approximately 544,000 cases in the U.S. market, according to Impact Databank.
WSET TO TAP INTO SURGING SAKE INTEREST

Malibu Intros New Rum-Sparkler Hybrid
Pernod Ricard is extending its Malibu rum brand with another product designed for cross-category appeal, Malibu Rum Sparkler. Hitting national distribution now, Malibu Rum Sparkler is a combination of Malibu rum and coconut water which is infused with bubbles and bottled under cork. The new entry comes in coconut and peach flavors, both 11% abv, and is priced at $16.99 a 750-ml.
The move to usher Malibu into the fast-rising bubbly segment follows a host of innovations across the brand in recent years, including higher-proof Malibu Black, low-calorie Malibu Island Spiced, Tequila-spiked Malibu Red and pre-mixed Malibu Cans. Malibu rose 3.5% to 1.9 million cases in the U.S. in 2013, according to Impact Databank.

Boston’s Harpoon Brewery has added The Long Thaw White IPA to its seasonal portfolio. Available now through March, The Long Thaw blends the characteristics of a spicy Belgian Wit with an American IPA. The 6.2%-abv spring entry is currently available in six-packs, 12-pack bottles and cans and on draft. The Long Thaw—which marks Harpoon’s first new seasonal in 14 years—joins the brewer’s existing Winter Warmer, Octoberfest, Imperial Pumpkin, Summer Beer, Midsummer Fling and Celtic Red labels in the seasonal Harpoon lineup.
