Update: Wrentham Recovering From Irene, Still in the Dark

The effects of yesterday's storm linger for Wrentham as power outages continue.

Update: Power has been restored to the center of Wrentham.

Town Administrator William Ketcham said the area near the intersection of Routes 1A and 140 got power back shortly after noon.

"There has been no word from the utility company on the rest of town," he said. "For residents without power, the fire department is making water available at the Public Safety Building and the Sheldonville Fire Department."

He said the town emergency management agency would be putting out information for those without power.

Ketcham said the municipal water system is up and running.

He said the public works crews have been out and clearing trees from the public highways.

"There are a few roads with trees leaning on power lines, and they're waiting on the utility company before they clear those," he said.

Original: The town of Wrentham is looking to recover from the effects of Irene's high winds, as much of the town remains without power.

National Grid's outage map shows outages in the majority of the town, affecting more than 5,000 customers. Traffic signals throughout Wrentham remain nonfunctional (though those by the Wrentham Village Outlets are working).

Many town businesses are closed. The outlet center opened as scheduled at 10am, but many stores there did not open, as they lack power.

The King Philip Regional High School and the Plainville Public Schools did not open their doors today.

The main roads through town were clear, but work on tree limbs still continues.
