Wrentham Appoints Blackman Building Commissioner

(The following article was written by local editor Jeff Sullivan.)

The Wrentham selectmen voted in June to appoint Robert Blackman as the new building commissioner in Wrentham in June. He will be sworn at Tuesday's meeting in the second floor conference room at town hall. The meeting will be starting at 6:45 a.m.

“I think he fits the picture of Wrentham, the people he would be working with and the public,” said selectman Gail Pratt.

During town meeting this year, residents voted to change the title of the building inspector to building commissioner.

Selectmen agreed Blackman was the right choice for Wrentham.

“Overall, I thought there was a nice confluence of skill sets that would serve the town well in Mr. Blackman,” said selectman Stephen Langley.

Blackman served as a building inspector for Millbury and North Attleboro, starting in 2005.

The recommendation came from a search committee that included retiring building inspector Nicholas Tobichuk and headed by Foxboro building commissioner William Casbarra. There were a dozen applicants for the job.

“The committee had 12 excellent candidates and it was not easy for us to narrow the field,” Planning Board member Bill Skinner said. “We easily could’ve recommended five to you. I think any one of them would be a good candidate.”
