Rep. Winslow Delivers Fluff and Top 10 List to Save Local Aid

When Governor Deval Patrick announced his plan to cut local aid as part of an effort to close a projected $540 million budget deficit, State Representative Dan Winslow (Norfolk-R) was quick to suggest that the governor go after the “fluff” before going after local aid. 

In a response to the Patrick Administration's statement that there was no fluff in the budget and to create a dialogue to find an alternative solution, Rep. Winslow delivered a pyramid of 10 containers of Marshmallow Fluff and 10 examples of fluff to cut to the Executive Office of Administration and Finance. Each of the 10 proposed ways to help cut the deficit was attached to a tub of Fluff in a Christmas card with a red bow.

After delivering the Fluff, Winslow said he was “basically ejected” from the office by a press liaison.

King Philip Seniors and Student Council Give Holiday Cheer to Roxbury Children

For the visitors at King Philip Regional High School yesterday, it was a break from reality and a chance for the school to give back. Once again, the senior class and the KP Student Council held a special holiday party for first and second graders from the Ellis Elementary School in Roxbury.

Arriving at 10:00 a.m., the young elementary students spent the day with students from KP, singing carols, enjoying lunch, playing games, and receiving gifts bought by members of the senior class and student council.

Overall, the KP Student Council and 285 members of the senior class took part in the day. The seniors' participation represented 85% of their grade

Senator Scott Brown Says Goodbye in Final Floor Speech

Thanking staff members, colleagues, and his constituency, Senator Scott Brown took to the Senate floor yesterday morning to give his farewell address to the Senate.

“Aside from my marriage to my wife Gail and the birth of my two children, serving in the greatest deliberative body for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, in the People’s Seat, has been the greatest honor in my life that I’ve ever had,” Brown said.

 in what was considered to be one of the most competitive senate races of 2012. Brown's term ends on January 3, 2013.

Man Arrested for OUI After Allegedly Striking Pedestrian Following Patriots Game

Massachusetts State Police responded to a hit and run that took place on Route 1 near the Foxborough/Wrentham border early Tuesday morning, according to state police.

At approximately 1 a.m., a man was struck by a motor vehicle near the Dalzell Brothers car dealership. According to the Massachusetts State Police, the "driver quickly fled the scene but was later stopped by two Massachusetts State Troopers who were working Monday night's Patriots' game."

The troopers then arrested Daniel Lishness, 27, of Southwick, and charged him with his second OUI offense, leaving the scene of personal injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and an OUI liquor and serious injury and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Trailing by over 20 to the Weston Wildcats with less that three minutes to go in the third quarter, it would of come to no surprise if a young King Philip girls’ basketball team with nine freshmen and sophomores on the 14 person roster simply packed it in for the night. Yet, with seconds to go in the fourth quarter, the Warriors found themselves with a chance to push the game to overtime and eventually win 72-67 in a double overtime thriller at King Philip High School.

17 From King Philip Named Hockomock All-Stars

The Hockmock League recently released their all-star list for the fall athletics season. Among the all-stars were 17 student-athletes from King Philip High School from all eight teams. One was also named a Boston Globe All-Scholastic.

King Philip High School Announces First Quarter Honor Roll

King Philip High School has released their honor roll for the first quarter of the 2012-13 school year. 

Overall, 208 students were commended for getting all A's, B's and no more than one C. 562 students received honors for earning all A's and B's. 122 students earned high honors for earning straight A's. Nearly 70% of students at the high school earned some sort of honor for their grades during the first semester.
