Wrentham Fire and Norfolk Country Rescue Crews Save Two Trapped Climbers on Joe's Rock

While accidents and injuries are nothing new to Joe’s Rock in West Wrentham, Wednesday evening’s rescue of two 27-year old men who climbed about 40-50 feet up the face of the rock created one of the more notable incidents in the conservation area.

“We have been here before for slips and falls. This is one of the most dramatic ones we’ve had here,” Wrentham Fire Chief Jay McMorrow said.

At about 5:20, Wrentham Fire responded to an emergency call from one of the climbers on their cell phones asking for help. According to Wrentham Fire Chief Jay McMorrow, the two men came to the conservation area after one of them visited the area yesterday. While walking around, the two decided to climb up Joe's rock, but quickly ran out of space while free climbing up the rock.

Wrentham School Committee Discusses Ideas to Improve Safety at Schools

Holding a special meeting to discuss how to improve security at the elementary schools, the Wrentham School Committee held an open discussion on school safety Thursday night in the Vogel Auditorium to find ways to help avoid a Newtown like situation.

Already taking basic precautions such as installing cameras and locking every entrance to the school during the day, the Wrentham Public Schools already do have security measures in place but are looking for more ideas without locking down the school at all times.

“The alternative is not having anyone in the school,” Wrentham Superintendent Jeff Marsden said. “We feel we’re at the center of the community. We have parents in, we want parents in, but we also want to make sure the kids are safe as well.”

Participants in Dancing with the Wrentham Stars Announced

Wrentham Community Events, Inc. is hosting the first annual Dancing with the Wrentham Stars event on March 8, 2013 at Lake Pearl Luciano's. Six local citizens have been paired up with six local charitable organizations to participate in a fun and friendly competition of fundraising and dancing.

Starting this week, all the stars will have 10 weeks to raise funds for their organizations. In addition, they will begin their dance lessons - 10 in total - at one of the participating dance studios: Dance and Beyond and Showcase Dance Productions, both located in Wrentham and Savaria Dance Studio located in Norwood. Each star has been matched up with a professional dance instructor who will choreograph a routine for them which they will perform the night of the event.

Brown Questions Markey's Malden Residency

In a radio interview Wednesday morning, former U.S. Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) jabbed at Democratic Congressman Edward Markey about his residency in Malden, according to a Boston.com report.

Brown questioned if Markey still lives in Massachusetts anymore and also told WTKK-FM he often sees members of the Bay State congressional delegation on planes trips home but said "I have never seen Ed on the airplane—ever," according to the report.
