Selectmen to Ask For Delay in Medical Marijuana Law

While the voters of Massachusetts gave their approve for medial marijuana with the passing of Question 3 during November's election, the Wrentham Board of Selectmen will be asking for a little more time to prepare for the legal use and distribution of the drug.

While the law is suppose to go into effect 45 days after being approved, some towns believe they need more time to draft zoning laws for where medical marijuana can be sold.

The discussion came up after the board received a letter from the Walpole Board of Selectmen, asking the Wrentham selectmen to petition State Senator Richard Ross in support of a delay in the implication of the law. The Walpole selectmen recently did the same with their senator, James Timilty

Wrentham Preparing for Cuts in Local Aid

With Governor Deval Patrick’s proposal to cut state aid including aid to every municipality in the state, Wrentham is preparing to see less money from the state.

Based on Governor Patrick’s order to close a projected $540 million budget hole that the governor blamed on the pending “fiscal cliff," Wrentham can expect to lose about $8,000 of the $788,586 in unrestricted aid that the town receives. They may however, receive some of that money back next year if the Lottery brings in more revenue than expected.

According to Town Administrator William Ketcham, the town has an estimated $200,000 that can be used as a safe cushion to help soften the financial hit caused by a cut in aid.

Revoulutionary War Re-enactors March Through Wrentham

When they arrived in Wrentham yesterday afternoon, it was as if four individual from the Revolutionary War found a time machine to 2012. Dressed as French soldiers, the gentlemen were taking part in a re-enactment of  the French army’s walk across what is now known as the Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail.

The walk takes the re-enactors from Providence to Boston using the exact same trail taken by 5,000 French soldiers in 1780.

Norfolk's Winter Named to WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Show

WEEI announced Thursday that Kevin Winter has been named morning sports anchor for Dennis & Callahan.

Winter, a Norfolk, native, has deep Boston roots and over a decade of Boston sports radio experience, including working at 890 ESPN Radio and 1510 The Zone.

 "I'm very grateful and excited for the opportunity to join WEEI, particularly "Dennis and Callahan," said Winter.  "This opportunity presents new and exciting challenges for me and I'm anxious and ready to get started.  I'm coming home!"

Counterfitters Arrested and More in the Wrentham Police Log

On Sunday, December 2, 2012, at approximately 5:00 pm, Wrentham police arrested two New York men and one New York woman. 

Steven Arcila, 32 years old, of 4646 161st #1 Flushing, NY, was charged with possessing a counterfeit note, uttering a counterfeit note and larceny by false pretence.  Kevin Duran, 20 years old, of 4225 Layton St. Elmhurst, NY was charged with possessing a counterfeit note, uttering a counterfeit note and larceny by false pretence.  Adrana Olaya, 47 years old, of 4646 161st #1 Flushing, NY was charged with six counts of larceny by false pretence, uttering a counterfeit note and possession of a counterfeit note. 

The arrest was the result of a call to police of persons passing fake one hundred dollar bills at the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets.

Holiday Mail Scam Reported in Area

With the holidays come scams offering gifts, rebates, and other items. Recently, the Plainville Police were notified of a mail scam going around designed to rip of the targed victimes.

According to the department, the scam is delivered in the mail by USPS in the form of a postcard. The postcard says that the receiver of the letter is eligible for a reward valued at $100. The card goes on to claim that the rebate can be used at multiple stores including Wal-Mart and Target. with instructions to call a phone number to claim the prize.
