Week in Review: Brown Trailing in Polls, Plainville Police Working to Curb Speeding, and More!

Democrat Elizabeth Warren is up by five points over incumbent Republican Scott Brown in the latest WBUR/MassINC poll of the Massachusetts senate race. That's a near-total reversal of the BUR poll last month, which had Brown up by four on Oct. 9. 

In fact, Warren has been trending upwards in most recent polling. The New York Times' FiveThirtyEight blog has Warren up by four in an average of recent polls. The blog, which uses advanced statistical modeling akin to baseball sabermetrics (think Moneyball) gives Warren an 89 percent chance of winning the election.

But Brown's got some significant energy on his side as well. He's been barnstorming the state with political luminaries like Senator John McCain and today won the Boston herald's endorsement.

Wrentham's Mount St. Mary’s Abbey's '62 Christmas Album Gets a Rerelease

The Mount St. Mary's Abbey's 1962 holiday album, Christmas in the Cloister will be getting a rerelease thanks to the Paris based Jade Records.

The album, features the sisters signing traditional Gregorian chants and popular Christmas carols that includes Silent Night and The Christmas Child.

The decision to re-release the 1962 album came during talks between the abbey and the music group to make a new CD for this holiday season. While the CD will not be completed for Christmas this year, the music group decided to reissue their '62 album.

Plainville Police Studying Traffic and Speeding with New Speed Radar Sign

After complaints from residents that there was too much speeding in town, the Plainville Police took a modern approach as a response. When the department received a new speed radar sign in August, it was quickly put to use to study the driving habits around Plainville. Since receiving the new sign, the department has been moving the sign around town and reporting on their findings on their Facebook page.

The new sign, which is held up on a poll by a bracket near a speed limit sign, has been helpful in tracking data on driving habits. With the ability to break down data to see when the busiest days and hours are, the Plainville police now have the advantage of being able to understand how fast or slow drivers on a street may be and how much traffic there is on a road.

“What this does is tell is if there is a problem. We can pin point it and address it,” Plainville Police Chief James Alfred said.

The Wrentham Police Department recently released their arrest log for September 26 - October 19. Among the seven arrests were two warrent arrests, two protection order violations, an OUI, and assult and battery, and a harrasment order violation.
