Patch Passport: Travel Back in Time

Travel Back in Time with the Wednesday Patch Passport, to discover the history and roots of Wrentham.

The Pond House, found at 289 East St., is one of the many sites in the town of Wrentham that has a long history.

The current building is about the third or fourth building on the site, one of the original settlements of Wrentham.

The town Historical Commission estimates that the oldest part of the current home was built in 1775, though the building was completed around 1790. It was owned by Col. Benjamin Hawes, a member of the Continental Army at the time.

The site has had numerous owners, from Edward Hawes in 1662 to William and Lizzie Sweatt, the latter of whom bequeathed the property to become what is now the Pond Home.

The home now serves as a residential and nursing care facility.
