Obituary: William R. Beckman

William R. Beckman, age 85, of Plainville died on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. He passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Golden Living Center in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Naomi F.E. (Kolbe) Beckman to whom he was wed on October 18, 1952.

Born in McKeesport, PA on Sept. 7, 1927, he was a dear son of the late William and Mabel (Sieber) Beckman.

He grew up in the McKeesport area and was a graduate of McKeesport Vocational High School. During WWII, William proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on Aug. 5, 1946.

Upon discharge, he went back to college and was a graduate of Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, PA. Upon graduation he was employed by the National Tube Company, a division of U.S. Steel in McKeesport as a Quality Control Manager.

A resident of Plainville since 1969, Mr. Beckman worked as a manager of quality control inspections at the former Texas Instruments in Attleboro prior to retiring.

William led a life of Christian services both in the Evangelical Congregational Church in McKeesport, serving as a Sunday school teacher, trustee and choir member. After moving to Plainville, his family joined the First Christian Church in West Mansfield where he served as a trustee, Sunday school Teacher, choir member, and leader of the youth group.

Mr. Beckman enjoyed fishing, golf, gardening , reading, and the special times shared with family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of over 60 years, he is survived by his devoted sons, William K. Beckman and his wife Kristine of New Town, CT and David F. Beckman and his wife Rowena of Rocky Hill, CT. He was the dear brother of Paul Beckman and his wife LuAnn of South Carolina and the late Donald Beckman. He was the cherished grandfather of Jamie Maley of Raleigh, North Carolina and Erin Harrigan of San Jose, CA and is also survived by his great grandson Cael Maley, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, July 1, at 11 a.m. in the First Christian Church, 11 Otis St., West Mansfield. Burial will be private.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 30, from 2-6 p.m.. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, William's family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the First Christian Church, 11 Otis St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
