Obituary: Mildred C. Tucker, First Female Employee at Washington Post

Mildred C. Tucker, 88, of East Street, Wrentham, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 4, 2013. She was the devoted widow of Joseph E. Tucker who predeceased her in 1995.           
     Born in Rock Ridge, North Carolina on Jan. 23, 1925, she was a loving daughter of the late Raeford K. and Smithie J. (Coleman) Fulghum. She was a graduate of the Rock Ridge High School.
      Formerly of Norwood, where she had raised her children, and Norton, she had made her home in Wrentham for the past fifteen years.
      She had the distinction of being the first female employee of the Washington Post newspaper where she had been the manager of the Circulation Department. She had also been employed by the Norwood Public Library where she worked as a desk clerk and kept track of book circulation. She was an avid reader, enjoyed doing puzzles and liked creating things with her hands producing attractive needle point.
     Millie leaves her loving children, Kenneth and his wife Kathleen Tucker of Norton, Greg and his wife Sally Tucker of Hingham, Janet and her husband Kevin Conroy of Wrentham, Anne Belliveau of Walpole, and Brian and his wife Lynn Tucker of Stoughton. She was the dear sister of Jane Benton of Evergreen, NC, and of Kenneth and Bet Fulghum of Chesapeake, VA. She was the devoted grandmother of nine grandchildren, and one great grandson.
      Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the RJ Ross Funeral Home, 135 South Street, Route 1A, Wrentham Centre, on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Her funeral mass will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 140 South St., Route 1A Wrentham Centre. Burial will follow in the Milton Cemetery, Milton. Donations in her memory may be made to the Pond Home Activities Fund, 289 East St., Wrentham MA 02093
     Arrangements are in the care of Richard Ross and the RJ Ross Funeral Home, Wrentham Centre.
