Utility company to survey power lines via helicopter.

National Grid will be surveying the power lines in Wrentham from a helicopted later this month.

The utility company will be looking at the overhead power lines in Wrentham (as well as Attleboro, Foxborough, Franklin, Hopedale, Mansfield, Mendon, Norton, North Attleboro, Plainville, Seekonk, Rehoboth and Uxbridge) on May 18.

National Grid drew some criticism about line maintenance following extended outages after Tropical Storm Irene and the October snowstorm.

According to the company, the inspections help find potential problems before they occur.

"Many of the power lines, which are major supply circuits, traverse remote areas that are difficult to access with vehicles, or on foot," a company release reads. "The aerial view gained from a flyover also enables crews to spot potential problems with trees or tree limbs that may be too close to lines. Damage caused by falling trees of limbs can be a major cause of power outages."
