Letter To the Editor: Wrentham Elementary Response To Weekend Vote

A letter to the editor from School Committee Chairman Edward Goddard and Superintendent Jeffrey Marsden.

The Wrentham Public Schools, through the School Committee,
Superintendent, Principals, teachers and employees, offer our thanks and
appreciation to the Wrentham’s residents that supported Saturday’s Debt
Exclusion ballot question. We will now await the final budget numbers
from the June 13th Town Meeting, before the School Committee finalizes
details on what services and personnel to reduce as a result of the failure of
the Debt Exclusion ballot question.

Although deeply disappointed with the outcome, the Wrentham Public
Schools must offer special thanks to the many tireless advocates who
campaigned for a yes vote on Saturday’s Debt Exclusion ballot question;
our Parent Teacher Organization, WEST, Team Yes, and many of our teachers who campaigned outside of their work duties. These groups demonstrated a passion for
Wrentham’s students and were a testament to the core values and mission
of the school district. We just could not get past the finish line in today’s
difficult economic climate.

The Wrentham Public Schools also wish to acknowledge the Wrentham
residents who advocated and voted against the Debt Exclusion ballot
question. This issue had reasonable and legitimate arguments on both sides.

We assure all Town residents that even in the face of the ballot question’s
failure and the reduction of resources; the Wrentham Public Schools remain
committed to providing the highest possible level of education and services
to our children.

Edward Goddard, Chair
Jeffrey Marsden, Superintendent
