Grab & Go Kids Planner: Bring on April!

From circus performances to checking out worms, here's some fun stuff to bring on April!

From circus performances to checking out worms, here's some fun stuff to bring on April!

  • The Easter Bunny is coming! Every weekend from April 2 until Easter, you and the kids can head to Winslow Farm (37 Eddy Street, Norton) for an Easter Egg Hunt from noon to 3pm. Winslow Farm offers a relaxed, non-competitive hunt, where each child can walk through the beautiful Winslow Nature Trail to search for colorful treat-filled eggs at their own pace. Children should bring their own baskets and are asked to collect a maximum of seven eggs. Admission is $7.
  • If you like worms, you definitely have to check out Worm World at Providence Children’s Museum (100 South Street, Providence, RI) on Saturday, April 2 or Sunday, April 3 from 11am to 2pm. Kids observe how worms wiggle, meet giant night crawlers, wear worm suits and squirm through a maze and get their hands dirty digging through a wormy habitat.  Ages 3 – 11. Admission is $8.50 per person.
  • The World’s Greatest Circus artists swing into action in the spotlight under the Big Top, where no seat is more than 50 feet from the ring from April 2 until May 15 at City Hall Plaza. Dance On! will include an awesome troupe of monocyclists and lasso twirlers from China, a mind–bending group of Mongolian contortionists and twelve miniature horses in an equine chorus line. Visit the site for dates, times and tickets.
  • For $15, your children can learn a fun Hawaiian dance at Springstep (98 George P. Hassett Drive, Medford) on Sunday, April 3 at 10am. Kids will learn hula basics, a song in Hawaiian to learn vocabulary and a dance to the mele Ka Ao Nani, a song honoring our environment. Ages 5+. At noon, children 8 and over can take the American Indian dance class where they’ll learn the Grass Dance, Shawl Dance and Mesmerizing Hoop Dance.
  • On Saturday night, the Caratunk Wildlife Refuge (301 Brown Avenue, Seekonk) will host a night hike for families from 7pm to 9:15pm, where you and the kids can check out the American Woodcock. This bird explodes up in a spiraling flight, sings its song hundreds of feet in the air, then plummets quickly to the ground where it all began. As nightfall sets in, participants will also walk the trails with an Audubon expert and search for owls. Recommended for kids 8 and up. $4-$8 for members. Registration is required by calling 401-949-5454 ext. 3041.
