5 Things You Need to Know: Wrentham Prepares for Memorial Day

The Tuesday Afternoon Book Discussion Group is meeting today at the Fiske Public Library.

1.  The Tuesday Afternoon Book Discussion Group will be meeting Tuesday, May 21 at the Fiske Public Library in Wrentham. The group meets the third Tuesday of every month at 1:30 p.m. This is a general book discussion group that explores contemporary and retrospective fiction as well as selected non-ficton titles. Library director Robin Glasser faciliates the discussion. The current title may be obtained by calling the circulation desk at 508-528-3380, ext 2. 2. The Annual Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 27, starting at 10:30 a.m. Marching units will assemble on Randall Road at 10 a.m. All veterans are encouraged to march in the parade whether or not in uniform. Those who have served after September 11, 2001 and who have recently served in Iraq (OIF) and Afganistan (OEF) are especially invited to participate. The parade will step off from Randall Road and proceed to the Center Cemetery where ceremonies will be held to honor all who have made the ultimate sacrifice in order that freedom may be preserved. The parade will conclude at the Common with observances at the war monuments. Also, at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 27, members of the American Legion Post 225 Rifle Squad and Color Guard will pay tribute to the deceased veterans at memorial sites throughout the town. All veterans and members of American Legion Post 225 are invited to attend Sunday Worship Services at 10 a.m. on May 26 at the Original Congregational Church, 1 East St. Any questions, please call the Veterans Service Officer at 508-384-8333.

3. Members of the Wrentham Boys Scout organization will be placing flags on the veterans' graves at the cemeteries, Saturday, May 25, at 9 .m.

4. King Philip Youth Soccer will be hosting Fall Season Placement Evaluations June 9 at King Philip Middle School. Girls will check-in at 10:30 a.m. and will finish at 1 p.m., the boys will check in at 1:30 p.m. and will finish at 4 p.m.

5. The Plainville Summer Learning Academy program is offered in two sessions for three  weeks in July and August. Classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday. For details and registration form, please visit Plainville Summer Learning Academy.
