5 Things: Wrentham Elementary Students Vote for President, Terrace Cafe Holding Fundraiser, and a KP Tournament Update

In today's 5 Things you Need to Know, the 3-6 graders in Wrentham vote in a mock Presidential and Senate election, an update on how King Philip is doing in the MIAA tournaments, and the Terrace Cafe is holding a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior P

1. Today's Weather from the Natonal Weather Service

  • Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. North wind 6 to 8 mph.
  • Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 24. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph.


2. King Philip Tournament Roundup

After beating #10 Cambridge R&L 3-1 on November 3, the #7 King Philip girls' volleyball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the MIAA Girls Volleyball Central East Division 1 tournament. They head on the road to face #2 Boston Latin Academy on November 6 at 4:00 p.m.

Despite beating #18 Barnstable 2-1 in the preliminary round on November 1, the KP field hockey team's season ended on November 3 with a 6-2 defeat to #2 Duxbury in the first round of the South Division I tournament. 

After qualifying for the Boys Soccer South Division I with a win in the final game of the year, #21 boys' soccer team were eliminated from tournament play on November 2 by #12 Wellesley 4-1 in the preliminary round.


3. KP School Committee Meeting Tonight

The King Philip School Committee will meet tonight in the library at King Philip High School at 7:00 p.m.


4. Terrace Cafe to Hold Fundraiser for the Troops

On Saturday, November 10th, from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., The Terrace Café will hold a Community Fundraising event to benefit The Wounded Warrior Project in honor of Veteran’s Day.

The Wounded Warrior project is a non-profit organization that provides programs and services to help severely injured service members and their families’ with the transition from active duty to civilian life. 

Tickets are available for purchase in advance of the event and at the door for $20 apiece. Admission includes a delicious meal, a beverage of choice, and live entertainment throughout the day. A different band is scheduled to play each hour from 10-4. In addition, they will be accepting care packages for soldiers on site, and will be hosting a blood drive. A full $15 of the ticket price will go directly to the Wounded Warrior fund.

5. Wrentham Public Schools Vote for Romney and Brown

In a mock election at the Wrentham Public Schools for students in grades 3-6, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney defeated President Barack Obama 357-253 in the Presidential election. Green Party candidate Jill Stein received five votes, Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson received two votes, and there were three write-in votes.

In the Senate race, Scott Brown defeated Elizabeth Warren 518-93.
