5 Things: National Geographic TV Show Visits Plainville, Downtown Visioning Session Tonight, Norfolk Jingle Bell Run, and More!

2. Plainville Athletic League on National Geographic TV

If you went by the PAL fields in the spring or summer, chances are you saw a giant bat being carved from a tree. During the process, National Geographic was in Plainville to film the process for their show, "American Chainsaw." The station recently announced that the 27-foot bat will be featured in the episode, "The Bat Man" on December 13 at 10:00 p.m. on the National Geographic channel.

The station can be found on channel 121(SD)/161(HD) on Verizon FiOS and on channel 210(SD)/821(HD) on Comcast. 

3. Downtown Visioning Session Tonight

The Wrentham Planning Board will have a Downtown Visioning Session tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Delaney School.

Wrentham is at a crossroads with respect to downtown. It is a vibrant and attractive area and the redevelopment of the 50+ acres that was formerly the Tyco/Crosby Vale site could have a major effect on the downtown. At the Visioning Workshop, we hope to hear from the residents and business owners of Wrentham on how they would like their downtown to look in the future. The vision we develop during the Workshop will guide planners and government officials in drafting zoning and other regulations to shape the future development of not just the 50 acres, but downtown as a whole.

The Visioning Workshop will be facilitated by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) and it is funded by a District Local Technical Assistance grant to the Town.

4. The Jingle Bell Run

The Norfolk Community League will hold the 11th Annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.

100% of the proceeds from the race will be donated directly to the Santa Foundation. The non-profit provides charitable assistance to local families in need during the year. Last year, 65 Norfolk families received assistance from the Santa Foundation.

Registration before December 1 is $20, $25 afterwards and on race day.

4. KP Pops this Saturday

The 17th annual King Philip Winter Pops Concert will be held this Saturday at King Philip Regional High School.

This concert is presented by the King Philip Regional High School music department and the King Philip Music Association.

This year’s theme is “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and is guaranteed to put everyone in the spirit of the season.  The evening is modeled after the Boston Pops concerts at Symphony Hall.

Patrons can order old-fashioned comfort food and beverages while seated at tables in the field house to be enjoyed while listening to music played and sung by the school’s acclaimed musicians and chorus students.

Tickets may be purchased at the door, which opens at 6pm for the 7pm concert, and are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students.

5. Vehicles Being Collected by Norfolk County Humane Society

The Norfolk County Humane Society is asking for your unwanted vehicles. Help homeless animals and get an IRS 1098© form for your deduction. NCHS is a 100% no-kill, non-profit, all volunteer organization that helps homeless animals get food, shelter and vet care. NCHS has placed 5,000 cats, rabbits, dogs, birds and small animals since it was organized in 1991. NCHS also helps low income households and senior citizens by providing financial assistance with spay/neuter and food for their pets.
