Wrentham Home Sales Climb in January

Wrentham saw its January home sales double year-over-year, according to data released today.

The data, compiled by real estate information firm The Warren Group, showed 10 home sales in Wrentham last month, up substantially from the five sold in January 2011.

Massachusetts saw a three percent overall increase in sales in January, ending up with its highest January sales volume since 2007. According to the group, the state had 2,425 homes sold last month, up from 2,348 in 2011.

Group CEO Timothy Warren Jr. said in a statement that the increase was positive.

"After a decline in sales volume in December, it's promising to see the highest sales volume in five years in January," he said. "Given low mortgage rates and steady prices, there's hope this year may fare a bit better."

Here are the home sales numbers for area towns:

• Attleboro had its home sales fall by 26 percent, dropping from 19 in January 2011 to 14 in January 2012.
• Dover's January home sales were steady year-over-year at three.
• Easton saw its home sales fall by half in January, dropping from eight to four.
• Foxborough's home sales were up 25 percent in January, from four in 2011 to five last month.
• Mansfield's January home sales dropped 25 percent, from eight to six.
• Medfield had its January home sales increase substantially, from four last year to 10 last month (a 150 percent jump).
• Norfolk's home sales were up 150 percent in January, from two in 2011 to five last month.
• Norton home sales jumped by a third in January, from six to eight.
• Norwood's home sales climbed by 57 percent, from seven in January 2011 to 11 in January 2012.
• Plainville's January home sales were up 50 percent, from two to three.
• Sharon home sales jumped by 40 percent, from 10 last year to 14 last month.
• Stoughton home sales fell 20 percent in January, from 10 to eight.
