Unemployment Down in Massachusetts

Unemployment rate falls yet again in the state.

The Massachusetts unemployment rate dropped again in December 2011, according to numbers released today by the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

According to the department, the rate fell from 7 percent in November to 6.8 percent last month. The national rate is 8.5 percent.

The department said the 6.8 rate is the lowest since December 2008.

A decrease of 6,200 jobs was also reported, though four of the state's 10 private sectors added jobs. The department claims 40,700 jobs were added in the state year over year (from December 2010 to December 2011).
