Red Rooster in Wrentham Rooted in the Local Scene

John Lightizer started the Red Rooster in 2010, fulfilling a dream he said he’s had for a long time.

“I always wanted to do something like this,” he said. “[I decided to] open and see what happened.”

He said the bar is always active, and one of the reasons for that, is the location. The Red Rooster, located on Route 1 in Wrentham, is right in the middle of Foxborough, Plainville, Norfolk and Mansfield. Lightizer said that helps drive traffic.

“We’re kind of in the juncture of everything,” he said.  “We cater to a lot of audiences, lunch, after work guys, there’s the evening dinner crowd, the late night crowd. Then later you get people getting off work at Patriot Place and the prison workers.t keeps the place going from opening to closing.”

Lightizer said he used to own a liquor store for 15 years. He was also in the molding and framing business.

He knew when he bought the bar he wanted to make it his own.

“The whole building’s being redone,” he said, “walls, ceilings, floors, electricity, everything.”

The Rooster offers a vari ety of pub-style food. Lightizer feels that there are not any places around the area that offer such a hometown feel.

“This is a little different that most places,” he said. “People can get more bang for their buck. It is a nice town feel and we’ve got a great local cliental. They’re great people, I’m very fortunate.”

Lightzier said that he is involved in many different charities throughout the area.

“I lost a little brother to cancer, so I raise some money for cancer awareness,” he said.

He also helps organize motorcycle runs for the summertime for People in Need, meat raffles for the Wrentham American Legion and disabled veterans.

He said that a young woman’s house burnt down recently in the neighborhood and he organized a fundraiser that raised over $5,000.

“We’re very charity-oriented here,” he said. “You do your part and you do the best you can.
