Plainridge Slots May Have Ups and Downs

Costs to the town from the additional slot parlor could be a problem for the town.

According to reports from Cummings Associates, the potential slot parlor at the Plainridge Racecourse would generate approximately $8.6 million over five years in added revenue for the town.

The downside? It would cost the town $5.6 million in services and facilities.

The reported stated that regardless of the additional slots, the town needs more fire, water and sewer and police resources to deal with other area growth, which includes the Plainville Commerce Park, a new CVS and a retail and restaurant project off of Madison Street. The report projected an increase in employees for all projects to be 650 additional employees.

The report stated an additional $3.1 million in added salaries for the police for six positions, (two officers and four additional staff) for 2015-2019. Aside from a new fire station, the fire department will need approximately $7 million over four years (2015-2019) for eight additional positions.

The report also stated that there would be over 6,000 patrons per day in the facility, which would put a heavy demand on the police and fire departments.
