Home Sales Up in Wrentham for August

Wrentham saw a year-over-year increase in home sales in August.

The town of Wrentham had its year-over-year home sales increase for the month of August, according to data released today.

The data, compiled by real estate information firm The Warren Group, showed home sales improving from nine in August 2010 to 11 last month, a 22 percent jump.

Year to date sales, though, are down, from 64 last year to 55 this year.

Massachusetts itself saw a 15 percent rise in sales, from 3,652 in August 2010 to 4,203 last month.

Cory Hopkins, managing editor of Banker & Tradesman (a publication of The Warren Group) said in a statement that the expiration of the homebuyer tax credit continues to make year-over-year comparisons troublesome.

"On the surface, the August numbers appear to be very strong, but we're comparing sales volume to a month last year when buyers were retreating after the tax credits expired," he said. "Summer sales have held steady, but we remain unsure if this will continue."

"It is unlikely sales volume will surpass the large numbers posted in 2010," he added.
