Mass Audubon Moose Hill October Happenings

 

The Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary will hold several events in October:

  • Pepperbush Trail Hike Family Program, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2. There will be an interpretative, leisurely walk along Moose Hill's newest trail, the Pepperbush Trail, which begins off of the Vernal Pool Loop. Check out the new boardwalks, learn about the geologic features, and discover what sweet pepperbush looks like, and more. This walk is designed for adults and children ages 7 and up. Younger children are welcome and will need to keep pace with the group. The walk will be cancelled in inclement weather; call prior to attending if the weather is questionable. Admission is free.                                                                                                       
  • Seeking Reptiles, for ages 4 to 6, 10 to 11:30 a.m. or 1 – 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. Join in the search for snakes and turtles, and along the way explore a variety of habitats. Discover what makes reptiles special and why alligators do not live in the swamp. A story, craft and plenty of outdoor play will be included. The fee per session is $8 to $11.
  • Kitchen Science, for ages 6 to 11, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6. Use items from a typical kitchen to help understand the scientific method. Chemical Reactions will feature experiments that fizz, pop and ooze. Straws and Strings will feature experiments with the items in the title. Hot and Cold will feature making home-made ice cream in a baggie and hot topics. Some experiments will be outdoors, so dress for the weather. The fee is $9 to $12.
  • Wednesday Outings, for ages 6 to 11, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Oct. 5. Hike, explore, observe and play games while exploring Moose Hill. Participants will help decide the group'sdestination for these monthly investigative walks. Dress for active outdoor exploration. The fee is $9 to $12.
  • Knee-High Naturalists, for ages 3 and 4. Each session includes stories, crafts and indoor circle time. Discover Moose Hill's "nature playgrounds" while learning about the theme of the week. The sessions are: Oct. 3,17,24 and 31 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The fee is $247 to $305; Oct. 4,11,18 and 25 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The fee is $266 to $305.
  • Moose Hill Walkers Adult Program, from 8 to 9 a.m. Oct. 3, 17, 24 and 31. See fall arrive while learning the trails for walks later. Participants must be able to maintain a steady walking pace for the hour. Walks are held rain or shine. The fee is $20 to $30. The fee per walk is $5 to
